Getting around New York can be quite a chore. I have always said the best mode of transportation is the NYC subway system. If you can stomach the dirt, crowds and threats, it really is an amazingly efficient system for shuffling eight million people through the city. The best part? The city's Music Under New York program. Started in 1985, MUNY musicians perform throughout the subway system. Below I have compiled a few of my favorites via YouTube.

It is very rare that a sale can leave one sad. Today begins Takashimaya's closing sale. A beautiful home store with the most amazing floral department. I have drawn so much inspiration from this store over the years. It has set the bar so high for the way retail should be done. Unfortunately even they could not outlast this economy. The sale starts today with 40% off merchandise.

Paton Miller

I am looking forward to seeing new works by southampton artist and friend Paton Miller. I love his mix of bold and soft colors. Growing up in hawaii and spending extensive in Bali and at his farm in Cost Rica, Miller's work is a study on the culture and family life observed on his travels.

Nude colors that range in hue from beige to chocolate browns. Nudes are big this Spring in fashion; think Burberry's Spring 2010 collection, which featured nude colors layered upon each other (coats, shoes, handbags, belts, socks). Well that trend is just as popular in home design and decor. Right now, I am in love with these nudes, as well as beiges, muted golds and champagne colors.

Nature Inspired Design - Michael Aram

April Showers Bring...The Tribeca Film Festival

I love April in New York. The weather is unpredictable, trying to hold on to a winter that didn't really start until February. But every so often the sun breaks out and we get the perfect day. New Yorkers know not to waste this fleeting gift. The real gift of April? The Tribeca Film Festival, which started this past Tuesday. I try to take in every film I can. I'm looking forward to The Dinner Party, written and directed by Peter Glanz, and Nice Guy Johnny by New York's homegrown Edward Burns.

Today's inspiration comes from several bedrooms with different styles of decor, but which have neutral, calming color palettes in common. Also, these bedrooms are well lit, clean, beautifully organized and just downright cozy. Some of these are a bit more luxurious, while others are ultra modern and still others are going for a zen aesthetic. A relaxing, neutral and calming color palette...I dare you not to fall fast asleep in any one of these beds.
